Medical Product Manufacturer Achieves Cost Savings with Help from EASi

EASi provided a flexible and scalable in-sourced model, focusing on quality resources and program management, to help a medical product manufacturer to improve work scheduling/management and fulfill workforce gaps.

The client and challenge
The client has manufactured surgical sutures and wound closure devices for more than 130 years. Headcount constraints and fluctuating workloads negatively impacted its project timelines and operations. Based on business needs and objectives, our customer required an in-sourced service provider to improve work scheduling/management and fulfill workforce gaps.

The EASi solution
EASi provided a flexible and scalable in-sourced model, focusing on quality resources and program management. Our organization built and maintained collaborative relationships with functional managers across multiple operational groups to understand their business needs and culture for required resources. We customized and implemented retention strategies that increased average tenure and improved work quality and overall performance. We applied our model to multiple functional areas within our customer’s operation including:

  • Quality operations (chemistry, microbiology, validation, compliance, remediation, auditing, technical writing)
  • Research and development (research, pilot plant ops, method development, method validation, chemical engineering)
  • Pre-clinical (toxicology, study management and coordination, technical writing, project management, sciences)
  • LIMS management (system administration)
  • Sample management (study management and stability coordination)

Through our routine governance meetings, quarterly business reviews and commitment to consistent communication we were able to drive greater operational efficiency and stability. These strategies allowed us to:

  • Scale up to a 65-resource program. Over the last eight years, we have engaged more than 100 consultants
  • Maintain 90 percent+ resource retention
  • Anticipate upcoming workforce needs

Furthermore, our dedicated Program Manager (PM) focuses on streamlining multiple HR functions and extending capacity of internal managers by outlining deliverables and acceptance criteria in Statement of Works (SOWs). Additional responsibilities include:

  • Resource onboarding
  • Performance management (against SOWs)
  • Timecard approval
  • Financial management and reporting to ensure our client stays on budget

The results
EASi’s in-sourced service model has effectively supported the fluctuating demands of the client’s business and continuously changing industry regulations. This approach has enabled our customer to meet project timelines, implement CAPAs and close out remediation efforts. Additionally, in-sourcing this work resulted in more than $160,000 in cost savings in the last fiscal year.
